Colorado Avalanche Player Grades, Game2

Bowen Byram: B – Played smart again tonight. Amazing sliding save to make up for the time he coughed the puck into its own zone.
Erik Johnson: C – He was once again involved in the offensive game, but with not much to demonstrate it.

Devon Toews: Two consecutive nights of penalties. It’s not his norm and it’s costing him money in the present.

Cale Makar : C – Fans were waiting with their breaths as he appeared to be injured towards the conclusion of the first but he returned and played the full game. He led the team with five shots, but that was all the team needed from the top defenseman.

Andrew Cogliano: Good shot to begin the third. Apart from that, pretty peaceful.

Valeri Nichushkin: A questionable call this evening to crash into Binnington. He was held for a good portion of the time and then released straight into the player. This led to what was felt to be an the game altering goal.

Nicolas Aube Kubel: C- I was impressed by his enthusiasm in some shifts today but that’s all. Nearly 13 minutes of play with no shots.

Nathan MacKinnon: C – He was a hard worker, but he couldn’t reach the goal that they needed for the team to stay on the field. It’s true that, whether you like the saying goes, it’s a major aspect in his work. Blues did a great job at in removing from him time as well as space.

J.T. Compher: D – Minus two tonight. Had some hits. There was nothing to be said for other lines. Faceoffs aren’t great, going 2 for 6.

Josh Manson: C+ Similar to the first game He was physically active and was hit and was forced to endure some nervous moments when it came to puck.

Darren Helm: D – He had five hits in just a little more than eight minutes. It’s not just because he was not a fan of the puck.

Sam Girard: D – He was causing moves through the neutral zone this evening. The Blues were everywhere and changing quickly.

Artturi Lehkonen C”Crazy” did not take a shot. He hit six times and I thought the player was being repeatedly pushed around.

Nico Sturm : D – A couple of hits and that’s all. The depth was not there this evening.

Nazem Kadri: C- – The numbers weren’t there in the 91st minute tonight. The Avs are in need of to see him get startedwise, but Nazem Kadri did play a excellent puck-possession in Game 1. Only did he win 40 percent of his games.

Gabe Landeskog: B- – Returned to the first line, along with MacKinnon along with Rantanen. Let the captain to bring the team and crowd up and running, but it was not enough to win the game.

Andre Burakovsky : D – His passing was off this evening like the rest of his team. He committed a costly error which led to his team’s Blues three goals in the match. It was basically the backbreaker.

Mikko Rantanen C Mikko Rantanen: C Big games require big players. I was hoping that he would shoot it from the breakaway, instead of passing. Similar to Kadri the Avs have to be on the move.

Darcy Kuemper: C – He wasn’t able to provide much assistance in the opening two minutes but was unable to get the stop required to keep the momentum going and keep the score in check. It’s difficult to put the loss on him, however Binnington definitely has the upper hand in the battle between goalies currently.
