Manchester United defeats Southampton to move up to sixth place in the Premier League standings.

At St Mary’s Stadium, Manchester United defeated Southampton 1-0 on the strength of a volley by Bruno Fernandes early in the second half.

United has now won back-to-back games in the Premier League for the first time since February, improving from their dismal start and moving them up to sixth in the standings.

In the first half, Southampton’s valiant defending prevented Erik Ten Hag’s squad from taking the lead.

To stop Fernandes, Anthony Elanga, and Christian Eriksen from attacking from close range, the hosts risked their lives.

The Saints’ greatest opportunity came from Armel Bella-Kotchap, who missed a close-range shot after it fell to him from a corner.

After a beautiful play from deep, Fernandes scored to give United the lead.

In spite of Southampton’s best efforts, the visitors held on to the three points as they sat back to defend their advantage and brought on new recruit Casemiro for his debut.
