This week sees the release of the trio’s brand-new track, “EDGING.”
In typical Blink-182 form, the band announced the news with a sexually explicit social media post that
if played too loudly in public, may leave someone with the wrong impression.
Reunion plans for Blink-182’s band have been announced. The pop-punk group announced on Tuesday, October 11, that they would reunite in 2023 for a world tour and an upcoming song with former singer/guitarist Tom DeLonge. DeLonge, who twice left the group—in 2005 and again in 2014—is now back, joining singer/bassist Mark Hoppus and drummer Travis Barker for what is being billed as their biggest worldwide tour to date.
The tour is scheduled to begin on March 11 at the Imperial GNP festival in Tijuana, Mexico, and continue through April 12 in South America and Mexico before switching to North America on May 4 with a performance at the Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul, Minnesota. These dates will last through a performance on July 16 at the Bridgestone Arena in Nashville, and from there the band will continue on to Europe in September and Australia/New Zealand in early 2024.
The news that a new song, “EDGING,” would be released on Friday (Oct. 14), marking the trio’s first time in the studio in ten years, is the most exciting for fans. The Take Off Your Pants and Jacket stars produced a promotional video for the tour, and in keeping with the hardly restrained excitement for the event, a number of fans make the promise to “do everything to have them come”—to their hometown, that is. Naturally.
The song “Edging,” has the lyrics “I ain’t that cool/ A bit f—ed in the head/ They’ll be hangin’ me quickly when I’m back from the dead/ Get the rope, get the rope, get the rope, get the rope,” is featured in the video as a sneak peek. Tickets for the tour, which a press release hinted would feature appearances at 2023 We Were Young festivals in Las Vegas with Green Day and others, as well as performances at Lollapaloozas in Chile, Argentina, and Brazil with Billie Eilish, Drake, and Lil Nas X, are expected to go on sale on Monday, October 17, at 10 a.m. local time here.
During his second absence from the band, Angels and Airwaves’ lead singer DeLone was replaced by Alkaline Trio guitarist and singer Matt Skiba; as of the time of publication, it was unknown whether or not Skiba would perform at the scheduled show.
When Blink deleted their social media accounts and replaced them with the black-and-white emblem from their 2005 greatest hits album, their fans suspected foul play.
The return occurs after Hoppus, 50, disclosed that he is penning a memoir that will detail both Blink’s rise to fame and his most recent fight with cancer. Back in August, after reuniting with DeLonge before to his “brutal” cancer treatments, Hoppus declared he was “open to whatever” for Blink. It’s actually improved from what it was. No agenda was present. There was no unfinished business. Three buddies conversing in a room seemed very much as it should, he added.
The Wallows in South America, Turnstile in North America, The Story So Far in Europe, and Rise Against in Australia and New Zealand will all provide support for the world tour.
